The Department of Transport has reported that across the United States the number of drunk drivers has decreased dramatically.
The survey was carried out across the country looking at weekend drivers and it states that there used to be 38% of weekend drivers who were under the influence of alcohol. This figure has now reduced to 8 percent.
Unfortunately according to the North Dakota Highway Patrol, this is not the case in the state as in around half of all of the fatal accidents the drivers are impaired by alcohol.
Although the Highway Patrol have a strong presence on the highway and they arrest on average just under 2,000 people a year on DUI charges, at the end of the day it is the choice of the driver whether or not to drink.
The North Dakota Highway Patrol is asking drivers to make better decisions when it comes to drinking and driving.
